To stop an oil spill, you stop it before it begins.

People may say, “We never would’ve guessed that this would happen,” but that is just something that we tell ourselves. There have always been earthquakes, hurricanes, and the greatest of natural disasters. There are always ways to even help prevent another 9/11 from happening. If there are ways to prevent or prepare for these, then aren’t there ways to prepare for a failed test before it happens?

If we don’t act, it is going to happen. It’s not negativity, but reality and wisdom. Part of growing, learning, and becoming… is preparing for the inevitable, so that the inevitable doesn’t play out the same way that it might if no action was taken.

How are you prepared for WHEN the oil spills…..and continues to spill?

I’ve never seen an ad for Southern California. All I’ve ever heard is from people who’ve visited there. They talk incessantly about the beauty of the mountains and ocean, how everyone has a tan, how the weather is always cooperative, and how people seem more laid back. They don’t talk about shootings, endless traffic, crowds that would make you nervous, fires, or earthquakes. Why not? Because the good overrides the bad.

Southern California doesn’t need it’s own ad department. It simply needs a bunch of people to visit and tell their friends what they’ve seen. Simple.

The point is that we often make things more difficult than needed by believing the lie that ‘everyone needs to be sold.’

Churches could learn greatly from this.

If something is worth sharing, people will share it! Share your place, thing, event, idea, work, mission, etc… and if it’s really great…. people will share it again and again. It’s what Godin talks about.

The thing is that this philosophy actually works, but most people are too fearful to try it. Make the things that you do so creative/innovative/excellent that people can’t help but share them.

You won’t be able to explain why… but will people just talk about it.
