I’ve been reading Seth Godin’s work of art over the past few weeks.

What has really grabbed me is that many people feel as if they don’t have the time to be totally remarkable. The only way a business or organization will succeed in the future is by embracing and amplifying it’s God-given uniqueness.

We must take the time and effort it requires to be remarkable. I would go as far as to say that we don’t have a choice. If we want our crews to be successful then we will take the time to become remarkable.

Jesus, as God on earth, taught us that He required time alone. In the wilderness. With Himself. There were always people who might say, there are so many to rescue… we’ll never get to all of them… we mustn’t rest. Jesus taught us that we don’t have enough time not to rest. We don’t have enough time to NOT be remarkable. He accomplished the most remarkable even in History. He didn’t start His public ministry til age 30 and after that He spent much time by himself. Remember at the cross, He still wins.

Take the time to be you. Who God made you. Use what God gave you. Be creative. Don’t waste any time. Don’t worry about everybody else. There’s always ‘everybody else.’ Rest. Think. Act. Breathe. Don’t try. Just be remarkable.

Nearly a month ago I decided to try an experiment with my writings. For a month, write things that people other than myself, will value, learn from, and things that might even start a decent convo.

I switched a simple white layout. I would rarely include videos or pictures (which is difficult by my natural inclination). I wanted to make the content more valuable than the trimmings and packaging. Content vs. Context.

The experiment was a success. My blog stats silently started climbing when I began offering something of substance to my readers. I appreciate you reading. You have affirmed that people really are hungry for direction, purpose, excellence, and definitely something bigger, much bigger, than themselves.

I will continue my experiment. I encourage you to keep reading. You can subscribe to this blog through RSS feed or through email.

Do you take time off? Do you take a day each week to rest, recharge, refuel, and release? It’s nearly impossible to do in this culture of “now-this”…. but with a few small sacrifices you might have a really effective day of rest. We are way over-stimulated as humans in the A.D.D. generation.

Just a few things:
•Turn off the cell phone. Do you need it, or is it just a crutch? How did George Washington live without it? Most of the calls and texts we get aren’t necessarily make or break… so why can’t we go a day without using it? People with sense might respect you more for your wise prioritization.
•Turn off the computer. Email can wait! So can silly videos from YouTube. If you get online, you know you’ll just go check your Twitter/email/Facebook/etc., so why even open that can of worms?
•Try sitting in a chair for 20 minutes while doing nothing. This is tough, but more rewarding for our over-stimulation than we could realize. Perhaps you’ll have an incredible idea that will change people’s lives? Don’t underestimate boring things. They are often good things in disguise!
•Try reading. Nobody seems to read anymore. That’s because it’s boring compared to TV, internet, cell phones, etc. It won’t be boring, if you start. Most of us are simply too lazy. Be different.
•Get distracted by something that gets you off your beaten path. This might look like ‘wasted time’ on a normal day, but not today! Don’t try to plan it if you don’t have to….

This is only one of many ways of doing things. What else helps you?

You won’t be disappointed. The rewards far outweigh the sacrifices.
The day after your day off may be the most effective day of your life.
