… is the t-shirt. The (printed-on) t-shirt probably advertises better and more frequently than money could buy. This team’s logo, that cause and its sponsors, this crazy piece of art, or that company that makes clothing to print on.

They print on the shirts and we advertise for them. Simple. Ingenious. It’s like a business card… except one-thousand percent more effective. Companies want you to wear the shirts at a pick-up basketball game, to a concert, or to school. Plus, you can target an audience a whole lot better…. because who do we best promote stuff to? Our friends… our relatives… the people who see us the most. So it makes sense that this was be a more effective and localized campaign.

A couple of points:
• For churches: If you make a shirt cheesy, it has the opposite effect. It repels.
• For small businesses: If you embroider your logo on a golf shirt, you might be just like everyone else.
• For causes: Make your shirts wearable in public. TWLOHA. Your cause will grow further. People will want the shirt first and find out what the cause is second.
• Addtionally, and most importantly… while t-shirts are one of the coolest inventions ever, no one cares that much about them. Personal relationships, authenticity, and service to others trump all of the things that t-shirts can do. They are just a small conversation starter. Let them be simply that.

By the way, use them like a blank sheet of paper, they’ll be out of style in ten years.
